Potassium carbonate, white crystalline powder. The density of 2.428 g/cm3. Melting point 891ºC, boiling point decomposition, the relative molecular weight of 138.21. Soluble in water, aqueous solution is alkaline, insoluble in ethanol and ether. Strong hygroscopicity, exposed to the air can absorb carbon dioxide and water, into potassium bicarbonate, should be sealed packaging. Hydrate has one water, two water, three water. Potassium carbonate aqueous solution is alkaline. Insoluble in ethanol and ether.
Potassium carbonate is anhydrous or crystalline with 1.5 molecules. The anhydrous substance is white granular powder, the crystal is small white translucent crystal or particle, odorless, with strong alkali taste, relative density 2.428(19ºC), melting point 891ºC, solubility in water is 114.5g/l00mL(25ºC), easy to absorb moisture in moist air. Soluble in lmL water (25ºC) and about 0.7mL boiling water, the saturated aqueous solution after cooling, glassy monoclinic crystal hydrate precipitation, relative density 2.043, lost crystal water at 100ºC, the pH value of 10% aqueous solution is about 11.6, insoluble in ethanol and ether.
